Ontario’s chief medical officer of health is scheduled to appear Monday before the three commission members examining how the province’s COVID-19 response affected long-term care residents.

Doctor David Williams’ testimony will not be live streamed, but transcripts are expected to be released at a later date by the Long Term Care COVID-19 Commission.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Christine Elliott is scheduled to appear, followed by Long Term Care Minister Dr. Merrilee Fullerton on Friday.

During the pandemic, there have been 3,734 nursing home resident deaths related to COVID-19. Over half of those deaths came during the second wave, which has led to a call by the Zoomers’ Advocacy Group CARP to demand Premier Ford fire his long term care minister for failing to protect residents in the second wave. There are more than 7100 names on the petition. Add yours by clicking here.
