Listen to my report here.
A cozy night inside is how this year’s Valentine’s Day is going down amid restrictions on restaurants and other forms of entertainment but you can still celebrate Cupid’s Day with some creative ideas.
“Valentine’s Day really is about connection,” says relationship expert and clinical psychologist Nicole McCance.
She says her clients are tired, stressed and anxious but her advice is get creative with your Valentine in lockdown.
“Try to ignite all of your senses, play jazz music in the background as you’re eating your food, maybe get the candles out, maybe get the nice china out, so really be creative in that way.”
While chocolate and flowers are a perennial safe bet, Nicole suggests trying something different.
“Making breakfast that day or taking out the garbage, you really want to think uniquely what does my partner complain about the most and then do that.”
We used to complain our lives were too busy, now we have too much time so no excuse to create nostalgic Valentine’s gifts.
“Pull out old photos of the two of you, go back to your first date, or old movies, remember the good old days.”
Recent studies show many are not interested in intimacy amid the pandemic.
“When we’re stressed, our libido goes down, which is unfortunate in some ways because we have more time to be intimate.”
And if money is a big stressor, no problem. Nicole suggests making eye contact and cuddling are free and commit to conversations that don’t involve work.
