Health Canada agrees with Pfizer that each of its vials of vaccine includes six doses, not five.
The labelling change means more shots can be squeezed out of each and the company can send fewer vials and still meet its contract for doses.
However, shipments to Canada for this week that have already begun are calculated at five doses per-vial.
After weeks of smaller than expected shipments because of production delays in Europe, Major General Dany Fortin says Pfizer will begin stepping up shipments next week.
”We expect to receive and distribute approximately 400,000 doses next week,” according to the head of Canada’s vaccine rollout.
