TTC staff feel the Scarborough RT should be shutdown in two years, and commuters put on shuttle buses for 7-years, until the promised 3-stop Scarborough subway opens.
Staff report the best option for maintaining or replacing the SRT is to run buses beginning in 2023, until the subway is completed, as scheduled by 2030.
The estimated costs run between $357-million and $375-million.
While TTC staff say another option is further overhauling the 36-year-old line, they recommend against that, saying there are risks service may still not be reliable and that it’s the most expensive at more than $522-million.
The SRT has been overhauled twice with ongoing maintenance needed though delays have been frequent and staff feel they will continue.
