He was one of the five burglars that broke into the Democratic Party Headquarters in a Washington hotel in 1972 and set off “Watergate.”
Eugenio Martinez, was the only person, other than then U.S. President Richard Nixon, to receive a presidential pardon in the scandal which set in motion the end of Nixon’s presidency and was the subject of the Academy Award winning movie, “All the President’s Men.”
Martinez was the last of the burglars still alive.
He’s died in his home in Florida a the age of 98.
