Zoomer Magazine recently spoke with Cicely Tyson about her life, career and the memoir, “Just As I Am,” for the upcoming February/March 2021 issue.
Tyson was born and raised in Harlem and first discovered as a model for Ebony Magazine. She began her screen career with bit parts but gained fame in the early ’70s when Black women were finally starting to get starring roles.
Tyson won two Emmy awards, was nominated for a best acting Oscar and in 2016 was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Tyson’s manager announced her passing Thursday but didn’t give a cause.
