One of the world’s most renowned conductors has announced he is leaving the London Symphony Orchestra, sort of.
Sir Simon Rattle is taking up a new post in Germany, where he lives.
The 65 year old maestro will become Chief Conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, in Munich, in 2023. However, he has agreed to extend his contract with the London orchestra for an extra year and will take up a lifetime role as its Conductor Emeritus from 2023 onward.
Sir Simon was previously chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for 16 years
