With 9 days left in U.S. President Donald Trump’s time in office, last week’s mob assault on the U.S. Capitol continues to resonate.

Trump is facing calls for his resignation, while House Democrats are expected to introduce impeachment articles on Monday.

They accuse the president of inciting insurrection after his supporters rampaged through the Capitol last week.

If the articles pass the house, they go to the senate, which acquitted the president last year.

G.O.P. Chief Mitch McConnell has already said a trial could not begin before next week’s inauguration.

The Democrats’ strategy for now is to hold off on a trial for 100 days giving Joe Biden time to deal with other issues after taking office.

There are also concerns there may yet be more violence before inauguration day on January 20th.

The mayor of Washington D.C. is seeking increased security for the event at the Capitol and wants all permits for demonstrations to be denied for the time being.
