When the Ford cabinet meets tonight to consider possible new measures to try to reduce COVID-19 cases, a curfew is not among them ”at this time.”
So say senior government sources.
Mayors and Chairs from the 11 biggest municipal governments across the GTHA are glad to hear that.
”Because, in part, of the difficulty in enforcing that (a curfew),” says Toronto Mayor John Tory.

”You can have all the government restrictions you want, of any kind, distance from home, time you leave, time you come back, and so on.  If people don’t decide to follow that, and to buy-in to the program, then it won’t work.”
Besides, the city’s medical officer of health, says there’s no real evidence that curfews work.
”There is however a great deal of evidence that focuses on distance, distance and distance,” adds Dr. Eileen De villa.
The province will announce details Tuesday on further measures tomorrow after the latest projections are released at 11:30 a.m.
