Mexican singer and composer Armando Manzanero has died at the age of 85 in Mexico City.

Manzanero had been hospitalized recently with COVID-19, but his manager says he died of a kidney problem.

Manzanero wrote the song “Somos Novios,” which was translated into English and was a hit for Perry Como as “It’s Impossible.”

Puerto Rican pop sensation Luis Miguel covered several of Manzanero’s songs, including “Contigo Aprendi.”

The Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico announced his death, saying “The romantic soul of Mexico and the world is in mourning.”
