Premier Doug Ford is doubling down on protecting the border through Pearson Airport and is calling on the federal government to impose a pre-departure COVID test before boarding a flight to Canada.

“And I’ve directed our officials to begin preparing infrastructure necessary for testing at our airports and I hope we won’t have to go it alone but we’re prepared to do that if we must and we just can’t wait any longer,” said Ford.

The premier is again urging Ottawa to step up and secure the borders to protect Canadians from this new U-K strain of COVID calling it a “massive threat.”

There have been no cases of this new more infectious strain in Ontario, according to Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Barbara Yaffe.

“At this point, there’s no evidence to say that the illness that causes this is any more severe or any different,” assured Dr. Yaffe. “And there’s no evidence that our vaccines would be any less effective, as in our vaccines would work against this mutation.”

Meantime, the Ontario PC’s have sent out an email to supporters accusing the Prime Minister of dragging his feet on closing our international borders.

It reads in part “enough is enough” and it sends one clear message “secure the borders now.” It goes on to read that if Justin Trudeau won’t secure the borders, the Ford Tories will.
