As expected Health Canada’s given the go ahead to the first COVID-19 vaccine for use in this country.
Canada’s set to receive four-million doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech two-doses vaccine by March; including up to 249,000 doses this month, with the first batch set to arrive next week.
Ottawa has bought 20-million with the option to purchase another 56-million.
Since it requires to be stored at extremely cold temperatures, Pfizer’s shipping the vaccine directly to provinces.
Vaccine distribution will be on the agenda tomorrow when the prime minister holds his weekly virtual meeting with premiers.
Federal health officials have released a vaccination timeline.
3-million Canadians are expected to be vaccinated by the end of March, 19-millin by the end of June.   There should be sufficient doses to inoculate all Canadians by the end of September 2021.
Another three potential vaccines are being reviewed by Health Canada, including one from Moderna, which is set to deliver two-million doses to this country in the first three months of the new year.
