He was the first human to fly faster than the speed of sound going almost 700 miles per hour.
Retired US Air Force Brigadier General Charles “Chuck” Yeager, a World War Two fighter pilot and quintessential test pilot has died.
Yeager flew for more than 60 years, the highlight was piloting an X-15 to nearly 1,600 kilometres per hour on October 14th 1947.
He was portrayed by actor Sam Shepard in the 1983 film “The Right Stuff” which was inspired by Tom Wolfe’s book of the same name.
Chuck Yeager died last night at the age of 97.
