“Very worrisome” is how Ontario’s Associate Medical Officer of Health describes the COVID infection trend, with 725 people currently in hospital.

“213 of those patients are in the intensive care unit up from 168 last Monday, and 156 two weeks ago,” Dr. Barbara Yaffe told reporters. “Tragically, since last Thursday, we have seen another 86 people have lost their lives to COVID-19.”

The province is approaching 2,000 new cases daily.

Meantime, at the same provincial health update, Ontario’s top doctor commented on the vaccine roll out and confirmed long term care residents may be bumped down the line and not receive the vaccine first.

“What we’ve been told by Pfizer is that besides keeping the cold temperature there is also a desire to limit the amount of movement because too much moving around can also cause a deterioration in the product,” said Dr. David Williams.

It’s expected to take from six to nine months for the vaccination roll out across the province.
