If you’ve been the victim of a phone scam, you’ll be pleased to hear this news.

RCMP say a man with ties to Mississauga, 25 year old Thomas Pao, is facing charges in connection with various trans-national telephone frauds, including the infamous Canada Revenue Agency scam.

A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for Pao, who is currently believed to be in China.

The charges are part of the RCMP’s ongoing investigation called Operation Octavia, which began just over two years ago to combat the CRA telephone tax schemes and other related frauds.

The CRA scam alone has cost victims a total of more than $18.5-million since 2014.

In the scam, callers from India impersonate CRA, RCMP or other federal agents in order to intimidate victims into paying non-existent fines or taxes.
