Ontario’s 626 long-term care homes need more inspections and more effective enforcement.
Those are just two of the recommendations in the second interim report from the three-person provincial commission on COVID-19 in long-term care.

The commission says the province must resume widespread annual inspections of its nursing homes.
Last year, there were only 27 after more than 300 in 2018, when they were eliminated by the province.
The process required a minimum of one thorough, unannounced inspection every year.
The commission adds when issues are identified there must be more effective enforcement with more inspectors hired.
Twelve more long-term care residents have died of COVID-19 with 680 infected.
Currently, there are outbreaks in 112 homes.
