A former president of France, who became a champion of European integration during his term in office, has died.

He was actually born in Germany in the wake of World War I, helped liberate Paris from the Nazi’s in World War II and later, as French Finance Minister, laid the groundwork for the Euro currency and helped integrate Britain into what became the E.U. in the 1970s.
