The Order of Canada welcomes 114 new members.
Ice-dance stars Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, as well as Olympic swimming champ and LGBTQ rights advocate Mark Tewksbury are among the athletes, artists, scholars and community leaders to be named by  the Governor-General’s office.
Moir and Virtue rose to national stardom with their gold-medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Tewksbury, who’s being named to the top companion rank, won gold in the 100-metre backstroke at the 1992 Barcelona games.
Six years later he came out publicly as gay and has been an advocate of LGBTQ rights and a prominent member of Canada’s Olympic movement, serving as chef de mission of the team at the 2012 London games.
Others named include geriatrician Roger Wong, ex-politicians Bill Graham and Allan Rock, Nobel Prize winner for Physics Jim Peebles and winemaker John Peller.
The Order is one of Canada’s highest civilian honours.
