With a record high number of new COVID cases at almost 800, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health says he’s recommending new restrictions to the government. But Dr. David Williams won’t say much more yet.
“We have made recommendations up to the minister and onto the cabinet and it’s up there for their consideration,” Dr. Williams told reporters.

Provincial health officials say the spread of COVID is setting off alarm bells beyond just the GTA and Ottawa.
Dr. Dirk Huyer , Coordinator of Outbreak Response, says they’re seeing more spread in schools and long term care.
“In mid September, we saw 80 percent of the cases associated with outbreaks in people under 40, more recently, we’re seeing the age associated with outbreaks dropping to a much lower percentage of younger people and a much higher percentage of older people, so speaking about the more vulnerable, more at risk,” said Dr. Huyer.
Hospitalizations and ICU cases are rising amid the second wave as evidenced by infectious disease expert Dr. Abdu Sharkawy who reports that Toronto Western is at 100 percent critical care bed capacity and many other GTA hospitals are over 90 percent.
