If COVID-19 cases spread to the classrooms in Ontario this fall, the Ford government says its prepared with its new outbreak plan, now available for parents and teachers on the province’s website here

Education Minister Steven Lecce says parents will know immediately if there’s a positive case.

“If someone in the school, whether students or staff, tests positive for COVID-19, the school community is properly notified and immediate and rigorous contact tracing kicks in,” Lecce told reporters.

“In some cases, the class cohorts will be tested, sent home, or closed until the outbreak is declared over.”

COVID-19 testing is not being mandated, but recommended. A ill child will not be allowed to return to school unless they are symptom free for 24 hours even if they have a negative COVID-19 test.

Provincial health officials admit they expect cases and potential outbreaks but add public health will be ready to respond.
