All of Ontario with the exception of Toronto, Peel and Windsor-Essex will move into Stage three of reopening on Friday.

But there’s growing concern over the spread of COVID-19 with the re-opening of bars , including from the Ontario Medical Association and Mayor John Tory, who’s sent a letter urging the Premier to place further restrictions on bars. Doug Ford says provincial health experts are considering the options.

“Every medical officer, all 34, can put stricter restrictions on bars and I wouldn’t disagree with this,” Ford told reporters at his daily pandemic briefing.

Stage three allows for indoor gatherings of up to 50 people, while outdoor gatherings can include up to 100 with physical distancing.

Restaurants can resume indoor service as long as tables are spaced two-metres apart and fitness centres, movie theatres, and casinos are also permitted to reopen under Stage three rules.

Meantime, the COVID-19 contact tracing app could be launched this Friday in Ontario. But Doug Ford says if it’s not live by then, it won’t impact regions entering stage 3 on Friday. Ford says the province is waiting for the federal government to move ahead wit the app.

Ontario’s Health Minister blames “Covid Fatigue” among young people for the recent increase in cases. Christine Elliott also urges young people to keep within one social circle for now to prevent the spread or a second wave.

52 of the new cases reported are in the 20-39 age group.
