DORA AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED VIRTUALLY

Caroline, or Change earned a leading eight musical nominations at this year’s Dora Awards.

The civil rights-era show is up for best production and direction and Toronto R & B singer Jully Black is nominated for her starring role as Caroline. Other musical contenders include David Mirvish’s Piaf/Dietrich and Young People’s Theatre’s The Adventures of Pinocchio with seven nods apiece.

Soulpepper’s The Brothers Size topped the general theatre category with eight nominations. The theatre company has 24 nominations overall. Coal Mine Theatre is the front-runner in the independent theatre division, scoring a total of 11 nominations for three of its productions. National Ballet of Canada scored six nominations in the dance division.

The Dora Mavor Moore Award is an award presented annually by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts which honours theatre, dance and opera productions in Toronto. Named after Dora Mavor Moore, who helped establish Canadian professional theatre, the award was established on December 13, 1978.
