Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government would support a smartphone app to help trace contacts of COVID-19 cases. He says all the provinces have agreed to a contact tracing table to share information and on methods and data. “Privacy is very important in any app,” says Ford. “People believe in privacy, I believe in privacy so we have to have the right app.” Ford is imploring anyone with COVID-19 symptoms to get tested but asymptomatic people are not being tested yet. Next week, the government will be rolling out a program to test certain sectors of the population and this weekend will test staff and residents in seniors’ homes.
A group of infectious disease experts have written an op-ed piece in the National Post arguing it’s time to lift COVID-19 lockdowns. The four specialists from U of T and McMaster say re-opening the economy should not be based on consistent lower cases. But Doug Ford defends his government’s strategy, saying he has full faith in his team of health experts.
The province also announcing a new program to help over 11,000 apprentices launch careers in the trades.
