Construction on a natural gas pipeline in northern B.C. has been paused for two days as Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs meet with provincial and federal ministers. The two sides hope to resolve in impasse over the First Nation’s land rights. Before heading into that meeting, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett told reporters these talks are important.

One of the hereditary chiefs opposed to the pipeline says they agreed to the meeting, after TC energy said it would stop work temporarily. RCMP have also agreed to stop patrols in certain areas while the meeting is underway.
