Japan’s government has decided to allow passengers older than 80 to get off a  quarantined cruise ship, if they test negative for the virus. The decision comes as 44 more people on the Diamond Princess have tested positive for the new coronavirus. There are now 218 infections among the roughly 3,500 passengers and crew including eight Canadians. Passengers report hygiene standards are extremely high on the ship in an attempt to keep the virus from spreading.

A woman in her 80’s who was infected with the new coronavirus has died in Japan, that country’s first confirmed fatality.
