The hometown of renowned opera star Jessye Norman is continuing four days of honouring her life. Officials Augusta, Georgia named a street in her honour on Friday, just outside the arts school Norman opened in 2003. The Jessye Norman School of the Arts provides free fine arts education to disadvantaged children.
It’s just a block from another street honouring an Augusta music giant James Brown. Norman was 74 when she died September 30th from complications following a spinal cord injury in 2015. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 and a benefit concert for the school follows the next day.
