Here’s an update on a story we brought you recently that’s resonated with our listeners. Mark Edwards regularly wows shoppers at a Toronto book store where he plays his own compositions on the store’s piano. Now, a listener has donated a piano to the gifted musician. After setting it up in Mark’s apartment, it was time to test the Korg keyboard. “It’s pretty nice,” said Mark before thanking the listener who traveled two hours along the 401 to deliver the piano after learning that Mark can’t read piano music and didn’t have the budget nor the space for a conventional piano. So the generous listener, offered Mark a smaller keyboard that’s been in his family for two generations. The RCAF pilot wants to remain unnamed. After an initial set up and checking out the keyboards pre-set demos, it was time for Mark to wow his new friend with a selection of his own beautiful compositions. Mark’s mother Gail said she knew that her son was gifted musically at a very young age and would often confuse the sound of him playing instruments with the radio, because he was that good!
Listen to my report here.
Mark performs on May 18th at the 519 Church Street Community Centre in addition to his regular gigs at Indigo at Bay and Bloor. You can check out Mark’s videos on his Instagram Heartfelt thanks to other listeners who offered pianos.
