Canada’s largest telecommunications company plans to follow the lead of Google and Facebook by collecting massive amounts of information about its customers. In December, Bell started asking customers for permission to track everything they do with their phones, internet, TV and apps. In return, Bell says it will provide ads that are more “tailored” to their needs and preferences. If given permission, information about age, gender, home address and more will be collected. Some law experts say customers who opt into Bell’s new program could be giving away valuable personal information with no compensation for the increased risk to their privacy and security.
