Author David Chariandy has won the 2018 Toronto Book Award for his novel “Brother.” It’s the latest in a string of awards for the book, about a young family trying to survive in a changing city. When making the announcement of his win last night, the jury called his book a “near flawless piece of writing ” The award carries a $10,000 cash prize for the winner and $1,000 for each runner up. Chariandy grew up in Toronto and lives and teaches in Vancouver.
