A man who helped break down barriers for black ballet dancers has died. Arthur Mitchell passed away Wednesday at a New York City hospital. Mitchell enjoyed success as a dancer during the 1950’s but was also a driving force in forming the Dance Theater of Harlem.
The head of the Dance Theater of Harlem says when it came to ballet, Mitchell “believed in a world where all people could have access to this beautiful art form.
