Ahead of Monday’s special meeting of Toronto City Council, Mayor John Tory and Ontario Premier Doug Ford  have ramped up their beef in a  public war of words over Bill 5 and funding for violence reduction. The pair exchanged a series of open letters and one from Premier Doug Ford urged the Mayor to put funding to fight gun violence on Monday’s agenda.Tory responded, in a letter saying  that rules dictate only one topic can be addressed the meeting, where the city solicitor will report  about possible legal action against Bill 5, new legislation that cuts size of council almost in half. The Premier shot back in a another letter on the weekend, saying it was disappointing the Mayor  won’t being up the issue before council. In addition to cutting council, Bill 5 also extends the candidate nomination period until September 14th. The provincial election is October 22nd.
