The service began with “O Canada” performed by Fredericton native, opera and concert soprano Measha Brueggergosman, then the New Brunswick city said goodbye to two of its police officers, 43 year-old Constable Sara Burns and 42-year old Constable Robb Costello.

The two were shot and killed when they responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment complex August 10th

Two other people were shot and killed as well; 32 year-old Bobbie Lee Wright and 42 year-old Donnie Robichaud.    A 48 year-old Fredericton man faces 4 first-degree charges.

Thousands of police officers from over 150 law enforcement agencies across North America attended Saturday’s combined service for Constables Burns and Costello at the University of New Brunswick’s Aikens Centre.

Prior to the service, about 15-hundred police officers and first responders marched in a procession, while hundreds of people lined the route.

Speaking at the service, New Brunswick Lieutenant Governor Jocelyne Roy-Vienneau said it was both a time of great sadness as well as a time to honour all police officers and first responders.
