There is an increased police presence on the streets of Toronto. It’s part of the city’s response to a surge in gun violence. There will be no new hires, but 200 offices will be paid overtime to patrol the high risk area between 7 pm until 3 am. The police union president  Mike McCormack says it’s a bad idea, and does nothing to help over-worked and stressed members of the force. The shift change, that will  cost about 3 million dollars, is part of an initiative announced jointly last week by the Police Chief and Toronto Mayor John Tory. Toronto’s police association will also ask the city to approve more public cameras and install microphones to detect gunshots.
