It’s been called the Roar On The Lakeshore, and one of its heroes in the past was The Thrill From West Hill.

It’s now known as The Honda Indy Toronto, but it began 32 years ago as The Molson Indy.

The annual Indy Car Series, a travelling circus of brave men, big trucks and awesome open-wheel racing cars is making its annual stop in Toronto this weekend. (July 14 and 15)

The sleek cars in their team’s colours will race along a portion of Lakeshore Boulevard and wind their way through the Exhibition Grounds.

Many of the greats in North American open-wheel racing have won the Toronto event, including Michael Andretti who took the checkered flag seven times.

His father, the great Mario Andretti, and his son Marco have also competed in the race.

Other Toronto Indy competitors over the years include Emerson Fittipaldi, Al Unser Junior and the winner of the very first Toronto race, Bobby Rahal in 1986.

Toronto’s Paul Tracy, known as The Thrill From West Hill won his hometown race twice, in 1993 and 2003.
