ARREST MADE IN CASE OF YOUNG GIRLS SHOT IN SCARBOROUGH PARK

Toronto Police have arrested a man in the case of two young sisters who were injured in a daylight shooting Thursday afternoon at a playground in a small park near the area of McNicoll Avenue and McCowan Road in Scarborough.

21-year-old Sheldon Eriya from Markham was arrested Friday and was to appear in court on Saturday.

The girls, age 5 and 9, were seriously injured when a man came into the park where 11 children were playing and opened fire in an attempt to shoot another man in the area.

The 5-year-old was shot in the abdomen, her older sister in the ankle.

They were rushed by paramedics to a hospital where they both underwent surgery. They’re now listed in stable condition.

Eriya has been charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated asault, discharging a firearm. posession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, and posession of the proceeds of crime.
