Prime Minister Trudeau didn’t pull any punches when he spoke about recent tariffs imposed on Canadian steel and aluminum by U-S President Donald Trump.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday morning, Trudeau said that it’s insulting and unacceptable for the Americans to suggest that the Canadian steel industry could pose a national security risk to the U.S.

It comes from the supposed possibility that the Canadian steel supply to the U.S. could be cut off in a national emergency. That was a reason the U.S. says it resumed the 25 percent tariff on steel as well as the 10 percent tariff on aluminum.

Trudeau said that to suggest Canada poses any form of security threat to the U.S. is insulting to the many Canadian soldiers who fought alongside Americans in such conflicts as World War II, the Korean war and Afghanistan.

Trudeau told the NBC News program that he wants to make sure Americans, and especially Trump supporters, know that they will also feel financial pain and strain from the tarrifs.

Trudeau also pointed out that when it comes to steel trade, the U.S. has a 2 billion dollar surplus with Canada.
