It was 65 years ago — June 2nd, 1953 — that Elizabeth the Second was crowned Queen.

With the coronation, she oficially became sovereign of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon.

At the age of 25, Elizabeth actually ascended the throne on February 6th, 1952 when her father, King George VI died.

Like the recent royal wedding, it was televised so that the rest of the Coomonwealth could experince the pagentry.

The C-B-C carried it here in Canada, but it wasn’t live.

Film was quickly put on aircraft to Toronto where the CBC aired it.

In London, a crowd of about 3 million lined the streets to watch the spectacle of the coronation procession.
