CANNES OPENS TUESDAY WITH SOME CHANGES

It’s going to be a bit different at Cannes this year.

The iconic film festival has to deal with issues that will steal some of the focus away from its main attractions on the French Riviera shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

For one thing, stars won’t have to cozy up with a fan to be part of a selfie, because the festival has banned selfies this year.

Longtime Motion picture kingpin Harvey Weinstein, a familiar site at Cannes in years past, will be staying at home after a litany of sexual accusations were brought up against him.

And while most of us love our Netflix subscriptions, the film festival is all about motion pictures that are shown in theatres. Cannes has said no to Netflix entering its own original features.

The festival this year has 18 male and three female filmmakers competing for its Palme d’Or Award.

The 71st annual Cannes Film Festival begins on Tuesday.
