Mayor John Tory says yesterday’s Ontario budget is good news for Toronto transit riders. The province announced billions for future projects but is also promising to offer GO Transit and UP Express riders $3 dollar fares within the city. The Mayor says the budget recognizes the critical need for improved transit and calls yesterday’s announcement a “game changer.” The other two provincial leaders responded to the transit announcement. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says if elected, she’ll pay half of the TTC’s operating cost. And PC leader Doug Ford, who calls transit “his specialty” wants to extend the Sheppard subway and add two stops to the Scarborough subway line.
