Thousands gathered in Washington D.C. Saturday to take part in the student-led “March For Our Lives” calling for tougher gun control laws in the U.S. and for making school safety a higher priority.
Earlier in the day, shouts of “enough is enough” could be heard at a rally in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed in a shooting on February 14th at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
More than 20,00 people heard one shooting survivor, Sari Kaufman say that the demonstrations are simply the first step.
In Toronto, hundreds gathered at Nathan Phillips Square before marching to Queen’s Park to listen to a vaiety of speakers. They stopped briefly in front of the U.S. Consulate on University Avenue where they read out loud the names of those who were killed in the Florida high school shooting.
Marchers in Toronto carried signs that protested U.S. shootings as well as local shootings that have plagued the city.
