A Montreal institution has said farewell.
The French language newspaper La Presse published its final print edition Saturday, as it moves to digital platforms for the future.
LaPresse was a familiar part of Montreal for 133 years.
The move meant 49 full-time and part-time jobs were lost.
The move was inevitable according to company president Pierre-Ellott Levasseur, because of the shift of advertising dollars to digital vehicles, and the growth of new forms of communication.
Daily issues of La Presse were actually discontinued in January, 2016, and it announced in June this year that the final Saturday edition would be December 30th.
