The Invictus Games are now underway after a spectacular opening ceremony Saturday night at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre,

About 550 competitors from around the world entered the arena carrying their nations’ flags and to the cheers and applause of dignitaries, fellow competitors, family members, and an audience of people showing their gratitude and admiration.

Prince Harry, who served with the British Army in Afghanistan, founded the games in 2014 to aid those wounded in war with their recovery.

In a powerful speech to open the week-long games, Harry said he wanted the world to understand and be inspired by the spirit of the men and women who wear the uniform.

Among those on hand at the opening ceremonies were Prime Minister Justin Trudea and America’s First Lady, Melania Trump.

Earlier in the day, Mrs. Trump attended a reception for members of the U-S team, and their families, and telling them to “take that fighting spirit that I know you have and bring home the gold,”

The opening ceremonies featured performances by Sarah McLachlan, Alessia Cara, and a speech from actor Mike Myers.

The games end Saturday, September 30th.
