Heavy flooding this summer caused major problems on the Toronto Islands, including putting an iconic amusement ride in jepordy of being taken away.

In an attempt to offset losses caused when the Islands were closed to visitors during the flood, the owner of the 110 year-old Centreville Carousel put the ride up for sale, meaning another city could aquire it.

Now a Toronto city councillor is spearheading an attempt to save the popular attraction.

In an interview with CP24, Councillor Paula Fletcher explained that she’ll be presenting a motion at next month’s council meeting to see if staff can negotiate a solution.

And Fletcher has launched a webpage petition asking for the public to get involved.
