Between Monday July 31 and and Friday August 4, police issued 1,714 parking tickets, 80 traffic tickets and 382 vehicles were towed. Police say they hope the blitz will change motorists driving habits. Elsewhere the Ontario Provincial Police have their own driving blitz. This August long weekend, OPP will be on the look out for motorists who don’t obey the “move over” law. It requires motorists to slow down when approaching an emergency vehicle on the side of the highway when its lights are flashing and to move over a lane if possible. The charge carries a $480 fine and three demerit points for a first offence.
