Expect delays today Canada’s busiest airport as unionized workers that service 30 airlines are on strike. The 700 ground crew are Members of Teamsters Union Local 419 walked off the job at 10 Thursday night at Toronto Pearson International after rejecting a contract proposal from Swissport. Delays are already reported and there’s word today that replacement workers brought in shortly after the picket lines went up, have already walked off the job leaving management to unload aircraft. The unionized workers are employed by Swissport, a company that services 30 airlines at the airport including Air Transat, Sunwing, Air France and British Airways. Teamsters spokesman Harjinder Badial says they’re ready to go back to the table if the company will negotiate fairly. Some of the airlines affected include Sunwing, Air Transat, Air France and British Airways. Air Canada and Westjet aren’t impacted but its a good idea to check your flight status before you head for the airport.
