Sunday’s speech by US President Trump was the centrepiece of his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia as part of his first overseas trip. Speaking to Muslim leaders, Trump put the onus for combating terrorism on the region and imploring Muslim leaders to aggressively fight extremists. The President described the fight against terrorism as a “battle between good and evil,” not a clash between the West and Islam. Trump struck a more moderate tone in his his foreign policy speech and did not use the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism”. But as a candidate, he routinely railed against former President Barack Obama and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton for failing to use the specific phrase, insisting that, “Anyone who cannot name our enemy, is not fit to lead this country.” Trump’s next stop is Israel where American flags are popping up in advance of his visit. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed all his Cabinet ministers to attend the official greeting for Trump after some of them planned on skipping the event.
