Scientists are hoping to find descendants of the sailors who lost their lives in the Franklin expedition.
The Franklin expedition ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror became stuck in the ice in Canada’s Arctic in 1845 while attempting to find the Northwest Passage.
The two ships were only found in the last three years by underwater archeologists.
Researchers are analysing D-N-A from teeth and bone fragments found in Nunavut where crew members died.
They hope the genetic analysis will lead them to finding true descendants of the long lost sailors.
The study is being done by scientists at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
