The leader of the Ontario New Democrats says her party will create a provincial universal pharmacare plan if they win the 2018 election.
Andrea Horwath says “seeing a doctor doesn’t mean much if you need a prescription but you can’t afford to fill it.”
For that reason, Horwath says, winning the election next year would mean her party would create Canada’s first universal pharmacare plan.
She made the policy announcement Saturday at the provincial NDP convention in Toronto.
While not providing any details, Horwath said the plan would mean lower costs, better health and less worry for everyone.
She says she’ll provide more details Monday.
The next election is over a year away, but Horwath says the campaign is already uderway.
