There’s some good news for Canadian pot smokers. Ottawa is hinting that it wants to keep marijuana taxes low, unlike booze and cigarettes. The federal government is designing the tax policy for the soon-to-be-legalized pot and Finance Minister Bill Morneau says he has one main goal – squeeze out the black market. He’s adamant that maximizing federal revenues is not, and will not be, the priority on pot. On the same day of Bill Morneau’s announcement, Canada’s pot crusaders made a brief court appearance in Toronto on charges of drug possession and trafficking. Marc and Jodi Emery were arrested in March after police raided Cannibus Culture locations and some houses. The Emery’s emerged from the courthouse and railed against the Liberal government for continuing to charge people for something that will be legal in a year.
