Could Toronto host the 2022 Commonwealth Games?

That’s something Ward 10 Councillor James Pasternak wants the city to consider, after the Commonwealth Games Federation pulled the bid from Durban, South Africa earlier this month.

Councillor Pasternak says we are in a good position to put forward a bid with much of the sports infrastructure already in place after hosting the 2015 Pan Am Games.

However, mayor John Tory is striking a less excited tone.

He released a statement last night saying he is advocating for great caution and that he will need great convincing to believe a bid for these games is a good idea.

The city will debate a motion on the matter during this week’s council meeting.
